Short bio

Peter Finke has been Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Zurich since 2006 and is a member of the University Priority Research Programme “Asia and Europe”. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Brill's book series Eurasian Studies Library, Leiden, NL, and a member of the Board of the series Gesellschaften und Staaten im Epochenwandel (GSE). Peter Finke studied Anthropology and Central Asian Studies in Munich, Göttingen, and Berlin. He holds a MA from Free University Berlin (1994), a PhD from Köln University (1999) and a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) from Leipzig University (2006). From 2000 until 2005 he was a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology and in 2005 became Head of the Research Group on Central Asia. In 2002/2003 he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire, U.S.A., and from 2004 until 2006 at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.
